The community was designated as martial race by officials of British India to describe the people possessing qualities like courage, loyalty, Self-sufficiency, physical strength, hard working and fighting tenacity and military tactics. A large number of Sikh Jatt’s serve in Indian Army and enjoy the status to identify the regiment after the community name. Jatt Regiment, Rajputana Rifles, Sikh Regiment and Grenadiers comprises of Sikh Jatt community. Besides soldiering, agriculture, cattle breeding is another few occupations that are found in this community.
Typically, Sikh Jatt prefers to find alliance within their community. Jat marriage ceremonies are conducted traditionally according to Vedic rituals. They give lots of importance to weddings celebrating it in more colorful and vibrant way. The pre wedding ceremony comprises of Bhat Nutana, Mugdana, Ban baithana, Pithi Lagana, Ratijka, Mehandi. The major wedding ceremonies are Chak Puja, Sarpech, Baraat nikasi, Ghud chadhi, chawal chadana, toran marana, Varmala, Haathlewa, Phera, Kanyadaan, Junwari and Vidaai. The joint family system is most popular amongst Jats. However, with the advancement, people are becoming flexible and tolerant eliminating some of these traditions.
